Rennes will be looking to overtake fifth-placed Nice in the Ligue 1 (L1) standings in this round 35 encounter. Toulouse, on the other hand, will be hoping to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
After being humiliated at home by Metz in their last home game, Rennes reacted well to draw at Nantes last weekend (1-1). However, that is still four without a win, and Sabri Lamouchi’s are now two points adrift of a Europa League qualification spot.
After a good performance and a 2-0 win at home against Angers in round 34, Toulouse recorded a good draw when they travelled to Caen (0-0) this week. Mickaël Debève’s men are now five points above the relegation zone.
In 22 previous meetings at Roazhon Park in L1 history, Rennes have won 13, while Nice have four wins. Clashes between these two sides are usually high scoring affairs – nine of the last eleven meetings in all competitions have produced more than 2.5 goals.
Both teams are in polar-opposite form. Rennes have lost only one of their last ten fixtures in L1 (W4, D5, L1),- while Toulouse have claimed only one win in their last ten (W1, D5, L4).
Players to watch: So far, Rennes midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud has a record of seven goals and six assists in L1, scoring two goals in his last three league matches.
Toulouse striker Yaya Sanogo has also done well recently, scoring three of his team’s last four goals.
Stat attack: Rennes have won none of their last three L1 home fixtures (D2, L1). They have also seen less than three goals scored in seven of their last eight league matches.
Toulouse have won only one of their last eleven away games in the league (W1, D3, L7) and they have seen less than three goals in each of their last five.
